NaNoWriMo: Week 3

We’ve finished week 3 now! Let’s see how it went.

A Writer's Perspective on NaNoWriMo 2018 | How does a writer do during NaNoWriMo? If you want to do it, but aren't sure if you want to jump in without knowing what's coming, read on. #writing #NaNoWriMo

My writing has been pretty constant for the most part. Except for day 17, of course. *glares at day 17*

~Day 12~

I got up to work on my writing but didn’t get super far before I decided to come out with my blog post. I did some writing afterward but then worked on some Social. By the time that was done, I had a headache and went off to read Lodestar. I spent the rest of the day reading, planning on writing again at night – since I seem to do well then – but it turns out there was yoga that night, which I’d totally forgotten about! So no other writing happened that night.

Snippet of the day:

That made Amanda feel a little better.

~Day 13~

Another school day! I sat down with my coffee before school, wrote out some more of this post, and then got to work on my writing. It also turned out to be the only time I got to write.

Snippet of the day:

Amanda thought for a few minutes, trying to figure out what was even good about winter.

~Day 14~

I slowly dragged myself back to my writing, not exactly oozing enthusiasm for the part I’m at.

That evening, when I was ready to work… my Microsoft acted up, and I ended up shutting down and restarting my computer.

AND IT DIDN’T SAVE ANYTHING I’D DONE THAT DAY.

So I came to the logical solution to spend the next 20 minutes moping by scrolling through Pinterest. 😂

When I finally forced myself to work on it, I spent the entire time switching between feeling like I was going to scream or burst into tears. Because I liked what I’d written before! And! It! Was! GONE! (I am writing this when I should be writing it actually)

So obviously I added in the following line:

Amanda stared harder at the paper, trying to will the words into existence.

Luckily, my amazing dad decided to let me stay up a bit later to work on my writing! 😘

Written today: 1,762 (this is not counting what got deleted, since I have no idea how much I wrote before)

Total word count: 18,695

~Day 15~

I made sure to get working in the morning; this time, I was going to get a lot of writing done!

That was the only time I got to write, and it was quickly over since I needed to do school. I was swamped with work for the rest of the day.

Snippet of the day:

Which basically meant that they were shaking the bridge a bunch and she was trying not to trip whilst thinking deep thoughts.

Written today: 680

Total word count: 19,375

~Day 16~

I got ready to write in the morning with my coffee, but my sisters were playing loudly and playing music loudly as well. 😂 I couldn’t really focus on my words. So, I did the obvious thing and just turned up my music super loud to block out them, and got to work.

*hunts in old notes for a line to use*

I was determined to make up for how little amount of writing I’d managed to get done during the week (there have already been 2 days with less than 1k, and I’m behind enough on the 50k goal as it is) so I spent my lunch break writing. I actually got a lot more done than I expected.

Snippet of the day:

Clouds floated. Dust floated. What else floated?

Amanda’s mind scrambled to think of something. Ghosts?

Sure. She’d craft a story about some clouds, dust, and a ghost.

~Day 17~

I was so busy all day that I never wrote.

No snippets.

~Day 18~

*Cecilia turns on music*

3 notes in…

Me: *shrieks* NARNIA!

I had worn a high ponytail that morning, and it had pulled on my hair weird. I had a difficult time paying attention very well to my writing because my scalp hurt where the hair had been pulled.

Snippet of the day:

Her social life was dead enough anyway without it being tainted as well.

Written today: 1,104

Total word count: 23,581

This week kind of jumped every-which-way with numbers, but I’m pretty happy with how it keeps going up.

Week 1/2s word count: 5,835

Week 2’s word count: 9,640

Week 3’s word count: 8,106

As a side note, today is my sister Mary’s birthday! 😃 She got the 7th book of Keeper of the Lost Cities (Flashback) and I am super excited to read it. 😜 We’ll see how that interferes with my writing! But anyway, make sure to check out her blog and wish her a happy birthday!

How is your writing going?

Do you like what you’ve written?
