Blue Sky Tag + The New Blogger Award/Tag

Hey there,

Today, I had planned on doing just one tag. But after being tagged again, I decided, “Well, I’ll just do them both in the same post! Mostly because my readers will kill me if I put another tag in between my dialogue series again.

And so here we are! First up, The Blue Sky Tag.

So within the time of 1 week, I had been tagged 4 times? *nervous laughter* How did I become so popular? Thank you, Abby, from 360* Writing for nominating me!

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

The ability to control storms. (I love that power 😆)

What sort of things make you laugh?

Me, my friends, books, movies… when something is so dumb in a little kid’s show, I laugh.

If you had to live in a time period different than the present, which would you choose, and where?

Hmmm… probably medieval times? I like writing in that timing period, and I know that Saint Frances and Saint Clare lived around that time. (During the Crusade)

What’s your favorite instrument?

I’ve been learning to play the piano for a long time, but it’s not my favorite instrument. I would have to say that the cello or violin might be. I watched two friends of mine playing cello together once, and it was beautiful! 😄

How would you react if somebody replied with “K”?

‘K’ (And knowing my friends, we’d just keep saying ‘k’ back and forth until we both start laughing at the same time 😆)

If you were stuck on a deserted island and you could only bring one thing, what would it be, and why?

I have to agree with Abby; a Disney Cruise would be a great thing to bring! 😆

If you had to choose between being a ninja or a superhero, which one would you pick?

If you could have dinner with any 3 people (dead or alive, who would they be?

  1. John Flanagan
  2. J.K. Rowlings
  3. Shannon Messenger

Is there a hobby/skill you’ve always wanted to try but never have?

HAHAHAHAHA! Ice skating and snowboarding! It’s shameful, I know; I’m Canadian, and haven’t ever ice skated or snowboarded. 😖

What’s the worst (or best, depending on how you look at it) pun you can think of?

What time should you go to the dentists at? Tooth o’clock! (Really bad 😂)

Think of a person. What song do you associate with them?

My friend who is bubbly, loves to dance, really pretty, and loves sweets, I’d associate with Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. 😆

I Nominate…

Lydia from Tenderness of Heart

Yashvi from Born Free

Aaaaand I think that’s all the bloggers I can really think of right now. 😂 (Finding 11 for The Liebester Award has officially ruined my ability to nominate bloggers)

Next, I must thank Starling from Starling for nominating me for The New Blogger Award/Tag!

The Story of Julia’s Creative Corner

I know that Starling summed up why she started her blog in one sentence, but my story is going to take a bit more than that. (Or maybe I just want to tell all the story, and not just a summary 😜)

It all began (and this is where you can tell this might take a while) back in October of 2016. It was one of those days, where my mom was talking about how expensive stuff was these days: houses are nuts, vehicles are nuts, college is nuts, down payments, years of money, thousands of $$$… etcetera. So anyway, she also mentioned this other blogger, who used affiliate links to books and stuff, and could make money. And I was like, hey, I should do that! Save up for college, house, and car in one fell swoop! (As you can tell, visions of dollar bills were pretty much dancing through my head)

Poor, naive, little Julia. 😂 Did she ever go about it wrong.

I checked out a book from the library on blogging: How to Blog for Dummies. Yes, one of those thick, yellow and black For Dummies books. *hides* AND I READ IT. I quickly decided to use (.org sounded too complicated) (look where that got me, I’m trying to switch to it now!) and the only parts I skipped were the chapters on how to set up a blog using a different host.

So at last, in that October, I started my first blog, Reader, Writer, Dreamer.

No, you may not have a link to it; it’s deleted. 😂

I tried to set up to be an Amazon affiliate (didn’t ever really finish the tax information) and then I began. I would read a book, snap a picture, post a review of the book and the picture and a link on a Sunday, and voila!

The only people who read the thing were my parents. And even then, not too often. (for good reason)

I had no likes, no comments, no engagement, no clicks, and no $$$. (again, for good reason)

I grew tired of that blog, and then eventually stopped blogging altogether. But I couldn’t figure out how to delete it.

After a failure as horrible as that, others might’ve stopped. (Yeah, so maybe I’m making myself sound like a hero or something; IT’S FOR DRAMATIC EFFECT.) But instead, I thought it over, and decided that I was going to try again.

The big Blogging for Dummies book (don’t read it) (ever) didn’t tell me anything about how to get my stuff out there. It didn’t tell me how to engage readers. Zip.

So I decided to research it myself.

In my free time.

I began searching through Pinterest. I followed Joana Penn, Gemma Bonham-Carter, and Summer Tannhauser. (names you probably won’t recognize) Through Joana Penn, I found Nick Stephenson (favorite author for me to get emails from; he knows his stuff) and Chandler Bolt. And I did that. In my free time.

Through Pinterest, I pinned bunches of stuff on blogging, and I read most of the posts, too. I enjoyed reading about it, and then finally, in July, I began blogging again.

Yes. July. *hint that I failed*

It was a creative blog by Wix, about my drawings, DIYs, crochet projects… stuff like that.

It lasted even shorter than Reader, Writer, Dreamer. I figured out how to delete it.

After swallowing all that information on blogging stuff, I didn’t want to give up. So, I thought more. From every free course on how to start a blog I’d taken, from every post on starting a blog I read, there was always one common thing: NICHE DOWN.

So what was my niche?

I decided to do writing. Not some book review blog; real writing. I’d learned a lot about it while researching blogging as well (Joana Penn, Nick Stephenson, and Chandler Bolt). And it had been a lot of work, and many many hours. I would help people not have to spend that much time researching.

And so, on August 8, I began my blog. The following day, I posted Idea Dump and got my first like ever. (I may have screamed 😆)

And so, that is the story of how this blog started.

5 Questions (for me and nominees, because I like these questions)

  1. When’s your birthday?

August 18 (yes, like Percy Jackson) (and fun fact: I was born in 2003; first book for Percy Jackson came out that year 😉)

2. Favorite type of candy?

Hmmm… candy… well, because this is candy, it’s not chocolate, so Rockets?

3. Do you have any pets?

Yep; we have 2 pet bunnies, Oreo and Cookie.

4. What are your hobbies?

Writing, reading, singing, and blogging.

5. Do you enjoy blogging?

Noel @ Just Another Nefelibata

Aaaand I didn’t know who else to nominate. 😂

The Goose Girl

Well, guys, I’ve officially changed the name of the book, so I guess I won’t be able to label this section of the book The Goose Girl after this. 😆 I mean, the main character isn’t even The Goose Girl anymore! It’s the servant! (No, it’s not called The Servant Girl)

Instead, the book is now called Once Upon a Goose. (So original, I know.)

Currently, I’ve written the first one and a half Chapters of the first draft.

Let’s do a few introductions to the characters of the book:

The princess (who becomes The Goose Girl later) is named Gwendolyn but mostly is just called Gwen.

The servant is named Linsey.

The prince’s name is Phillip.

I think that’s all the names you need to know for now. 😆

New Blog

So I officially bought a theme on Friday and hosting and a domain name on Sunday. Yesterday, I began setting it up.

*crazed laughter*

I had problems with everything. And when I say everything, I mean everything. Download the zip files? Took me a while to find the right spot, and a couple tries to actually download them. Upload the files? Had to figure out that I had the wrong files, and needed to find those zip files. Trying to move posts, comments, and all that stuff over from this blog? Apparently, you need to pay. Which I’m not doing. So instead, I’m still working on copy-pasting all the posts onto the new blog.

And I don’t think I can change the font size, which sucks, cause it’s kind of small. 😂

But other than that stuff, it’s slowly but surely (starting to) coming together.

Interview with Madi Grace

After hinting at it for forever, I can finally reveal that I was interviewed by Madi Grace! The post went live last Tuesday; here’s a link! (Make sure to follow her; Madi is awesome!)

Have any suggestions for awesome bloggers to follow so I can actually nominate people for stuff? 😂

What do you think about Once Upon a Goose for a title?

Are you excited about my new blog?

  1. Welcome! I’m glad that you like my blog! I would recommend Cait @ Paper Fury, May @ Forever and Every, Abby @ When Words Fly, and Nick Stephenson’s work. (I don’t know the specific blog name of his, but he’s a self-published author who’s doing great and living off of his works 😉) No problem!

  2. I actually am not that much help when it comes to copyright stuff; however, if you put your site logo on a picture, that can help. For example, on my pins, I always have my ‘Julia’s Creative Corner’ on the bottom, showing that’s where it came from. I know that lots of other sites do this as well. If you happen to see people using your content without your permission, you can always just shoot them an email, or contact them in some way, and ask them to remove it. They’re usually understanding and will take it down. 🙂
